Thanks to the work of contributors we have made really good progress fixing blockers, we are down to just 14. That’s why early next week we are planning to create a Git branch for the v1.0 release and issue the first release candidate.
Right now, we expect that there will be at least a couple of release candidates, with one or two weeks of development between each of them. This largely depends on how many blockers the community discovers and reports, and how fast we can fix those.
So for users who want to help us make an awesome, crash-free v1.0 release — get ready to test release candidates and report bugs. Any contributors interested to help us fix bugs — you are most welcome to join the fun!
We also ask addon developers to start checking whether your workbenches and macros continue working as expected in the upcoming release. If you run into issues, please contact us.
There will be a biweekly developers call on Jitsi this Sunday. Everyone is welcome to attend, you can find the information about it on the FPA’s Events page.

I am already using the weekly builds. 1.0 is a big leap from the previous versions in almost all aspects to me, stability, usability, capability, aesthetically, features, etc . I have been using FreeCAD since version 16. Simply amazing ! I mainly use Part Design and BIM. I will use the integrated Assembly soon.
It’s great, we’ve put a lot of effort into using it to create parametric models for more people to use.
I am coming from a 3D solids modeling AutoCAD background and am so tired of needing Windows (that wants too much of my personal info now with 11) and finding a pirated version of overpriced (for me) AutoCAD that I’ve decided to take the plunge, and at this significant 1.0 juncture, and give myself a course in FreeCAD(/Ondsel?) this fall. I’ve tried FreeCAD some years ago, but it left too much to be desired at the outset, so we’ll see with 1.0R C1 .
If or when I do, I’ll try to report as much bugs, etc., as I can and as best as I can.
Humble hats off to the devs, BTW. You rock.
using dev builds since month back, and frankly it is perfect! thx for your work.
The new free cad logo at the top of this blog is great! I really like that as well. You guys are doing a fantastic job overall. I cannot wait to help test the new candidate!
I hope to start using FreeCAD soon, and I am excited to see the 1.0RC coming along. Thank you for all of your work. My goal is to be able to run an engineering and science startup entirely on open source software.
